What you experienced matters — to researchers, to others who’ve been there, and to a broader understanding of consciousness and what lies beyond. You are welcome here exactly as you are.
You may submit anonymously. No identifying information is required. All inquiries are strictly confidential. What you share is treated with the same confidentiality and respect that guides 36 years of clinical practice. Submissions are reviewed privately before publication.
Before writing, you may find it helpful to review the Greyson NDE Scale — a 16-item research instrument identifying features commonly reported in near-death experiences. Developed at the University of Virginia.
Two validated research instruments may help you recognize and name what you experienced.
The Greyson NDE Scale — the most widely used tool in NDE research — asks 16 questions across four dimensions: cognitive, affective, paranormal, and transcendental.
A more recent instrument, the NDE-C Scale (2020), expands to 20 items and includes features such as the sense that the experience simply cannot be put into words, emphasizing the complexity and depth of near-death experiences and providing a comprehensive framework for understanding these profound occurrences.
This exploration not only aids an individual’s self-reflection but also contributes to the broader field of NDE research, allowing researchers to gather diverse data and insights that can lead to deeper understandings of consciousness and human experience.
If your experience has left you with questions, uncertainty, or a need to talk with someone who understands — I am here. I am Michael Matouk, PhD cPLLC, a clinical psychologist with 36 years of experience. I understand the NDE experience, I am licensed, and I have worked with individuals navigating the profound aftermath of near-death and spiritual experiences. You are safe here.
